BDF Empowers Banjar Teachers to Recognize Dyslexia Early
Bali Dyslexia Foundation (BDF) has once again demonstrated its commitment to advancing inclusive education through the implementation of an Early Dyslexia Identification Training program for elementary school teachers across Banjar District. Conducted over two days, the training brought together a total of 110 teachers, all eager to deepen their understanding of dyslexia and strengthen their ability to recognize early signs of learning difficulties among their students.
The training was held at the BDF Performing Arts Hall and was officially opened by the Head of the Banjar District Education Coordinator Office, Mrs. Putu Murtini, S.Pd., M.Pd. In her opening remarks, she highlighted the crucial role of teachers as the frontline in identifying students' learning needs. Early detection within schools is an essential first step in ensuring that every child receives the support and educational opportunities they deserve.
Throughout the program, participants explored the characteristics of dyslexia, practical approaches to early identification in school settings, and classroom strategies to support students experiencing difficulties with reading and writing. The sessions also provided opportunities for teachers to exchange experiences, discuss challenges, and learn from one another in supporting children with diverse learning profiles.
As a token of appreciation for their participation, all attendees received meals and refreshments throughout the training, as well as certificates of participation. These provisions were intended to ensure participants' comfort and encourage active engagement throughout the learning process, enabling them to bring valuable knowledge back to their respective schools.
This training marks the first phase of a broader, ongoing program developed by BDF. Following the implementation of the knowledge gained by teachers in their schools, BDF will organize follow-up workshops to further strengthen educators' capacity to support students with specific learning difficulties. The next stage will involve screening tests and assessments conducted by the BDF team for students who show signs of dyslexia, allowing for a more accurate understanding of each child's learning needs. Based on the assessment results, BDF will then provide free additional classroom support and intervention for children identified as requiring assistance. This comprehensive approach has previously been implemented successfully in Seririt District, generating positive outcomes for teachers, students, and families. Through sustained collaboration, BDF hopes that more children can be identified early and receive the support they need to reach their full potential.
